Chewton book wins state award

LOCAL author Ken McKimmie's book on the history of Chewton has taken out an award in today's Victorian Community History Awards.

The collection of historical documents details the growth of the Mount Alexander Goldfield town.

At an awards ceremony this afternoon it was named the best in the Local History - Small Publication category.

Judges described his book Chewton Then and Now as an "attractive and well-presented book (that) provides a fresh approach to the presentation of local history".

The book contains 50 studies of historic buildings and heritage sites in the Chewton area near Castlemaine.

The Victorian Community History Awards seek to encourage work that contributes to the development and appreciation of the history of Victoria.
