Monday marks the launch of the Central Victorian Fossil Fuel Free Charter in Bendigo.
Signatories will pledge to stop investing in corporations funding the expansion of fossil fuels to those supporting clean energy.
La Trobe University, Bendigo Bank and Mount Alexander Shire have divested.
The Bendigo Sustainability Group, which is hosting the event, has called for the City of Greater Bendigo to follow suit.
Central Victorian Divestment Charter spokesman Bernard Tonkin said divesting was easier than people might think.
“Anyone with a bank account or electricity bill can join this growing global movement – it’s all laid out for you on the charter website,” he said.
Jacynta Fuamatu of 350Pacific will speak at the launch, which starts at 7pm at the Queens Arms Hotel in Quarry Hill.
