Carli Kreyts, 21, appeared distressed and dishevelled during her appearance via video-link in Albury Local Court on Tuesday following her arrest last week.
She dropped her head in her hands when told she wouldn’t be able to be bailed from the Junee Correctional Centre until at least Friday.
The Howlong woman, who has also lived in Albury, allegedly had 12.4 grams of ice, 17 ecstasy tablets, an ice pipe, cash and a bag with an unknown black or brown substance in her handbag.
She had been driving a car at Lavington with a passenger when she came to police attention about 5.20pm last Thursday.
A police check revealed the silver Subaru she was driving had a suspended registration and police pulled the vehicle over in the Blacklocks car park.
Police became suspicious of the passenger and a search allegedly unearthed the drugs and cash, some of which was stashed in a cigarette packet.
Police asked where the $400 had come from.
“If you must know, it’s from prostitution,” she allegedly replied.
Kreyts allegedly asked police if she could smoke what was left in the ice pipe before it was seized.
She was questioned at Albury police station after her arrest.
“How can I prove that the money is not from drugs, I don’t give receipts to people I f---,” she allegedly said.
Kreyts allegedly brought the drugs in Melbourne for $1000 and by “offering her services to an unknown male”.
The court heard there were questions about whether the vehicle stop was lawful.
Kreyts’ lawyer argued the seized items needed to be properly examined and weighed and noted she had been “grappling” with a significant methamphetamine problem.
The 21-year-old was behind bars for the first time, with the charges “a significant wake up”.
She had been on a bond for similar offences when she was arrested.
Magistrate Tony Murray asked how long it would take before the matter went to trial and raised concerns about the possible time she could spend in custody.
He was preparing to release Kreyts on bail, but questions were raised about whether her mother could provide a surety given a recent police matter.
The matter will return to court on Friday.
