Dozens of readers recognised familiar faces in the Where Would You Be Without The Addy? commercial, submitting their names via our online form.
But a few have still eluded our audience, like those featured in the image above.
Robert Cook, a partner in advertising firm Cook Green & Moore that created the ad, described the commercial as one of the company’s most successful local campaigns.
“Because it related,” he said when asked about the commercial’s appeal.
“It was very localised. People used to make great personalities of themselves by press or by television, so they were obviously people who were well-known in the community.
“Because they were well known they probably had some influence.”
The iconic jingle explained the vital importance of the local newspaper to the its community, Mr Cook said, with the lyrics comparing an Advertiser-less Bendigo to “Australia without Alan Border”.
Mr Cook said there were as many as three versions of the TVC, each containing a different collection of Bendigo characters.
The Bendigo Advertiser still wants to complete a list of the commercial’s cast. To share what you know, fill in the online form below, leaving your name and contact details so we can get in touch with you.
If you know more than one of the advertisement’s cast members, refresh the page after each entry and provide another response.
