Plowright successfully defended his title won in Hungary in 2014 in the 18-39 super heavyweight (100kg-plus) division in the staff discipline at the recent World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation Multi Style Stick Fighting World Championships held in the Philippines.
As well as winning the staff world championship for the second time, 27-year-old Plowright also won bronze in the single stick and double stick disciplines.
Plowright convincingly defeated his final opponent 30-7 to win the staff title.
“I’m very satisfied with all my results from the championships,” Plowright said this week.
“I’m very proud to have won the staff event again, and bettered myself from last time in the single and double stick, so that was very pleasing.”
Plowright only took up the martial art in 2013 and is trained by Bendigo’s Glen Eden.
“James’ results are a credit to his hard work and his dedication to his training,” Eden said.
“He’s doing exceptionally well and we’re very proud of him.”
Plowright was among more than 500 stick fighters from over 30 countries who competed at the world championships.
