The Pioneers led at every change in winning 10.14 (74) to 7.11 (53) at Warawee Park – their first victory in metropolitan Melbourne since 2013.
With the victory the Pioneers are now 4-10, one game behind the eighth-placed Chargers with three rounds remaining.
The Pioneers’ win was led by strong performances from Paddy Dow, Jack Exell, Jarrod Brander, Kayle Kirby and Josh Formosa.
Kirby booted four goals to take his season tally to 27, while Brander and Bailey Henderson each slotted two.
The Pioneers take on country rivals North Ballarat at the QEO from 1pm next Sunday.
