People have offered support to a man who was left with the clothes he was wearing after a car fire in Bendigo on Friday.
Bendigo Acting Sergeant Travis Dole said police had been inundated with calls from people keen to provide assistance.
“His dad picked him up on Friday,” he said.
He said the man is staying with his father in Melbourne.
People have also contacted the The Bendigo Advertiser with offers to help the man, who was seeking emergency food and a fuel voucher to attend a job interview when the fire broke out.
He was unemployed and living from his car, which contained his dog and all of his possessions when the fire sparked.
The man’s faithful companion was saved, but everything else was destroyed by fire.
Bendigo Fire Brigade senior station officer Tim Bruechert said Haven; Home, Safe and UnitingCare Bendigo offered the man some assistance shortly after the fire.
“It’s great that people have come out of the woodwork with offers to help,” Mr Bruechert said.
It is not yet known how to connect the public’s offers with the man.
