Not in Eaglehawk
On Monday night Eaglehawk residents held a meeting to discuss our concerns regarding the heavy vehicle traffic, volume, noise and vibration and loss of amenity that we are feeling as a result.

Several positive proposals came from this meeting amongst them to talk with the local businesses, including the Eaglehawk landfill, about their operations and the impact these have on local residents and look at ways they could cooperate to minimise adverse impacts, particularly for those residents colocated with the businesses.
Then we learn that Councillor Leach is proposing a waste incinerator for Bendigo.
Could I take this opportunity to indicate to councillors Leach, Chapman and Cox that as a resident of Eaglehawk, along with so many others, already impacted by poor planning decisions in the past that it is my opinion that Eaglehawk would not countenance an incinerator in our vicinity.
Regarding waste management, I congratulate Bendigo council's foresight regarding the kerbside organic waste collection.
As I pointed out to Cr Cox at Monday's meeting, much household waste is not safely compostable in the domestic setting.
Improperly handled they provide a breeding ground for vermin - rats, mice, blowflies, cockroaches among them.
After 40 years of composting, I fully support people managing their own waste but understand the limitations for many people and the limitations of composting.
The future of the landfill and appropriate rehabilitation of the site is vitally important to the future of Eaglehawk village and these new measures will make that future brighter and cleaner.

Who is the true bully?
Some newcomers – like Julia Gillard – are applying pressure on us to weaken our opposition and strengthen their foothold in the country.
They are trying to deter us from being patriotic and standing up for Australian interests.
When Julia was Prime Minister, she introduced new laws to silence us.
This has made it easier for migrants and refugees of any kind to enter the country.
In order to fulfil her political aspirations, she brought in a great number of social reforms and concessions.
But many of them are unrealistic and lacking financial backing.
Owing to the naive, unsubstantiated attempts to create a socialistic haven, we have finished up with a crippling foreign debt.
It will take several generations and lot of hard work to get rid of.

Don’t forget the struggle of CFA volunteers
I'm writing this as a concerned CFA volunteer with over 35 years service.
I'm concerned that our volunteers and the public, individually, have no avenue to voice their concerns about the CFA negotiations.
The federal election may be past and somewhat forgotten, but don't forget the struggle of CFA volunteers to overturn the government’s thinking of agreeing with the current EBA, effectively giving the UFU control of the CFA.
Just because it no longer gets front page coverage in the papers, we must not give up our efforts at protesting to the government of the proposed EBA, and potential union takeover of the CFA.
We should keep asking the premier what is in the union EBA that his ex minister, the CFA board, the ex CEO of the CFA, and the chief fire officer found objectionable and didn't agree with.
We must not allow union control of the CFA.
If volunteers or the public would like a vehicle with which to petition the Premier on this matter, go to www.communityrun.org/p/support-cfa
