AFS Chartered Accountants presented Lifeline Central Victoria and Mallee chief executive officer Leo Schultz with a cheque for $500 on Wednesday, proceeds from a series of casual clothes days, raffles and chocolate fundraisers held at their Bull Street offices.
AFS partner Adrian Downing said the suicide of a Bendigo business community member in 2013 moved him and his colleagues to donate more of their time to charitable causes.
On top of its fundraising efforts, the company completes pro bono or discounted audits for several of its city’s community organisations.
Employees were eager to take time out of their workday to lend not-for-profits a hand, Mr Downing said.
Mr Schultz said $500 answered 50 life-saving phone calls from people in crisis, or ran 10 suicide prevention workshops.
“We rely on our community not only to staff our phones, but fund the operation as well,” he said.
