The alleged incident occurred in the second half of Saturday’s under-14 reserves game between North Bendigo and Huntly at Atkins Street.
One North Bendigo and one Huntly player were involved in a fight and both clubs are alleging that rival officials acted inappropriately at the scene of the clash.
“We had a special meeting last night and we’ve put it to the league (BJFL) that we want a formal investigation,’’ Huntly president Sam Walker said.
“It’s all allegations at the moment, so we don’t want to say too much until the investigation is complete.”
Walker confirmed that the Huntly player involved in the fight was taken to Bendigo Hospital where he was treated for a broken nose.
North Bendigo Junior Football Club president Tom Nicholson said the Bulldogs’ official at the centre of Huntly’s allegations was “being thrown under the bus”.
“The story that I have and the story that Huntly is supplying are completely different,’’ Nicholson said.
“We’ll wait and see how the investigation unfolds… but we’re very keen to give our side of the story.”
AFL Central Victoria junior operations manager Norm Sheahan said the BJFL was keen to start the investigation as soon as possible.
“Both clubs have formally asked the BJFL to launch an investigation,’’ Sheahan said.
“An independent investigator will look into the allegations from both clubs and if there is a case to be answered it will then go to an independent tribunal.”
