The exhibition, titled Bill Henson: Landscapes, is showing until June 30.
Henson first exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria at age 19 and, over a 40-year period, has been recognised as Australia’s foremost contemporary photographer.
The urban and rural landscape works were taken between 1997 and 2006.
It is the first exhibition of its kind at the Castlemaine gallery, and complements the gallery’s significant permanent collection, which focuses on the Australian landscape genre.
Castlemaine Art Gallery’s permanent collection includes works by artists such as Frederick McCubbin, Fred Williams, Lina Bryans, Philip Wolfhagen and Rick Amor.
