Jools for Jim hairdresser Sara Collins has organised a warehouse party at Stock and Station in Bath Lane on April 22 in support of Fish for Life.
What is Fish for Life, you ask?
It’s a fundraiser for the Cancer Council, created by Skipper Mark Ratchford, who will attempt to boat and fish his way around Australia.
He plans to incorporate more than 90 stops and 80 fundraising events into his six month adventure and hopes to encourage families, recreational boaties and clubs to get their lines out for cancer while he’s at it.
Money raised will be donated to the each destination’s nearest Cancer Council state branch.
Mr Ratchford aims to raise $500,000 for cancer research.
He will cast off from the Melbourne Boat Show on June 19 and is prepared to tackle about 16,500 kilometres of ocean.
Losing loved ones to cancer inspired his journey.
“I woke up one morning and said to my wife, ‘I want to do something to help’,” Mr Ratchford said.
The skipper will make an appearance at the Bendigo fundraiser, which aims to raise $10,000 for Cancer Council Victoria.
“I am thrilled that we can still assist with this amazing commitment even though Bendigo is an inland city,” Ms Collins said.
“The old warehouse will be reinvigorated and will look amazing, with projections, entertainment, food and we have some fantastic auction and raffle prizes.”
She said she had been amazed by the support of central Victorian businesses and personalities.
Leukaemia survivor Dane Sheppard will speak at the event, which PH Property director John Pawsey will emcee.
The event will be catered by El Gordo, with entertainment by Ryan Gay ‘Knot’.
“Guests will be able to shop with some of Bendigo’s best fashion boutiques, with a percentage of all sales donated to the charity,” Ms Collins said.
Pop-up fashion stores include Robe, Mona Lisa, Soho and Styling Bird.
The warehouse party starts at 6.30pm.
Tickets are $40 per person and are available from www.stickytickets.com.au/36167
Ms Collins said people could visit the Fish for Life website for more about the charity.
