Body hunt in Kyneton a false alarm

A POLICE search for a man who was thought to be transporting a dead body in his car ended with the discovery that he was driving with his pregnant wife.

A search was issued for the vehicle driving on the Calder Freeway near Kyneton yesterday, after it was reported that there was a suspicious-looking body under a sheet on the back seat of the car.

Kyneton police received the initial callout from a concerned driver just before midday.

Sergeant Jason Hawke, of Bendigo police, said officers located the man’s house yesterday afternoon and questioned him over the incident.

“It was his heavily pregnant wife, and she had been sleeping in the back under a blanket,” he said.

Sergeant Hawke said the man was surprised to be quizzed over the matter and he was not facing any charges.
