Of the three plans unveiled yesterday, the red dragon concept received the highest approval rating from the traders.
Vicki Bolitho, manager of Granny May’s, said she hoped the playground would bring families back to the mall.
“It’s nice to see something positive happening here for a change,” she said.
“I don’t think anyone realised how much the old playground was used before it was removed and I hope this will give families a reason to come back to the mall.”
Children will vote on their preferred designs over the next two weeks.
Marlene Dalgliesh of Free Choice said children would probably choose the red dragon playground.
“The old dragon that used to be there, the kids loved playing on it,” she said.
“I think they’ll go for that one, with all the colours. But it doesn’t matter which one they choose, the kids will love it.”
Peter Anthony said he also thought the red dragon design would be chosen.
“It is a little worrying that kids will vote for it,” he said.
“But I think it will bring more people to the mall, and the quality type of people we want here.”
My Size manager Hayley McPherson said she didn’t bring her young children to the area.
“It needs to be more kid-friendly here,” she said.
“When they had the trampolines outside Myer the other day there were quite a few people here, so it should be really good.”
