The youth mental health service is on the hunt for young car lovers to participate in its third annual Don’t Blow A Head Gasket Youth Car Rally, to be held next month.
The show and shine rally will be held as part of National Youth Week celebrations.
It follows a free music event held in Rosalind Park on Thursday night, which was organised by the Bendigo headspace team with the City of Greater Bendigo’s youth events team FReeZA and Mic Up Productions.
Car lovers aged up to 25 have been invited to join the car rally, a celebration of all things automobile.
Headspace Bendigo senior mental health clinician Lindsay Rose said he expected this year’s event to be the biggest yet.
“The event exceeded expectations when it was first held in 2014 and grew further last year with more sponsors and youth entrants,” Mr Rose said.
The event gave young people the opportunity to show the rest of the community what younger drivers were really made of, he said.
“This important event gives our local youth an opportunity to show that the majority of young drivers in our region are responsible, car-loving enthusiasts,” he said.
“It also allows for our young people to show off their pride and joy and allow others to marvel at the time, blood, sweat and dollars spent on many of these vehicles.”
Young car owners are urged to get washing, polishing and fine tuning that sound system, with prizes on offer for those cars judged to be the Sweetest Ride, Slickest Wheels, Best Sound and Fan Favourite.
The event will be held from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, April 16 and is free of charge for competitors and spectators.
Headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation, which provides early intervention mental health services to people aged 12 to 25 years old.
All centres, including that in Bendigo, can help with mental health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and drug, and work and study issues.
The centres also run a range of programs and activities for young people.
The headspace centre in Bendigo also has a youth reference group aimed at ensuring the delivery of quality services.
The group meets weekly and is open to any young person who wants to get involved.
