Australian cycling star Annette Edmondson and team-mate Jess Mundy stamped their class in Saturday night’s Innes Motors Honda Bendigo Women’s Madison.
Edmondson and Mundy lapped the field and scored 38 points to finish one lap and 10 points clear of a gallant Tayla Evans and Lauretta Hanson in second place.
The United States’ Alissa Maglaty and South Australia’s Maeve Moroney-Plouffe were a further lap behind in third place on 14 points.
Bendigo sisters Imogen and Marquessa Jelbart finished in fifth place.
Edmondson and Mundy went into the race as the hot favourites and they didn’t disappoint in the 60-lap event.
Evans, from Bendigo, and Hanson, from Macdeon, tried their hardest to stick with Edmondson and Mundy but the class of the favourites took its toll.
It was Mundy’s second-straight Bendigo Women’s Madison victory. She has now won every Madison she has contested, including two national titles.
Edmondson lived up to her pre-carnival hype.
The track star also won the Bee Happy Orthodontics Women’s 1600m Handicap and the Lisa Chesters MP Women’s A Grade Scratch Race.
Meanwhile, team pursuit world champion Miles Scotson took out Saturday night’s feature race for men, the Bill McLachlan Scratch Race.
Scotson won the thrilling 20-lap event from Sam Welsford and Graeme Brown in a scorching time of 9:35.79.
