In the Northern United Cricket Association, Dingee won its first flag since 2010 with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Goornong.
Dingee’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss at Elmore reaped dividends as it restricted Goornong to just 8-81 off its 40 overs.
Dingee’s economical bowling performance featured Scott Lawry taking 3-10 off eight overs; Daniel Whitfield 1-11 off eight; Anthony Lawry 2-19 off eight; Matthew Hind 1-4 off three; and Andrew Nisbet 0-8 off six.
Dingee had pressure on Goornong from the moment Hind claimed the key wicket of opener Jesse O’Connell (1), who was caught by Jon Bryers. From 1-6, Goornong later fell to 7-29, before the Walruses crawled their way to 81.
Only Jesse Tuohey (28 n.o.) and Steven Hickson (13) scored in double figures for the Walruses.
In reply, Dingee took just 23.2 overs to chase down its target and win the flag as it scored 2-83 in reply.
Dingee lost an early wicket when Dale Anderson fell for a duck, but the rest of the innings was smooth sailing.
Opener Adam Baird made 33, while Nick Hobbs (30 n.o.) and Kyle Patten (9 n.o.) were at the crease when the winning runs were hit.
Jamie Daff (1-15) and Hickson (1-15) took a wicket each for the Walruses.
Dingee won the premiership after finishing the home and away season fourth and having sat on the bottom of the ladder at the halfway mark of the season.
