Bendigo Easter Festival reference group chair, councillor Rod Fyffe, said about 30 volunteers aged 15 and older are still needed to assist with a wide variety of roles, including paint pot people assistants, around the world assistants and Goldfields Library story telling tree assistants.
“We simply couldn’t put the Easter Festival on each year without the support of our volunteers and with Easter fast approaching we are putting out a call for some help,” Cr Fyffe said.
“Volunteering at the Bendigo Easter Festival is a great way to get involved with the community, meet new people, work with industry professionals and have lots of fun.
“If anyone is interested in volunteering or knows someone who might be we ask that you register your interest because we would love to have you on board.
“It’s also a good opportunity for students who may need to gain volunteer hours for their school courses.”
Among that category is La Trobe University events management student Lisa Cameron, who also volunteered at the festival last year.
Originally from Yarrawonga, Ms Cameron is in her third and final year at university and will next year enter a competitive job market.
“It’s certainly hard to get a job if you don’t have that kind of experience,” Ms Cameron said.
“It tells – it looks good on your resume to list all of those experiences.”
Volunteer coordinator Jaime Cail said it wasn’t only students who had put their hands up to help out.
“Mums, dads, kids, retired people, young people – we get a whole range,” Ms Cail said.
“You get to work with exciting people, you get out and about, you get a chance to give back to the community and you get to be a part of this festival.”
Volunteer role descriptions and the online application form can be found on the festival’s new, mobile friendly website www.bendigoeasterfestival.org.au.
Anyone wanting more information should contact Ms Cail on 4408 6544 or email j.cail@bendigo.vic.gov.au.
The Bendigo Chinese Association is also seeking a large band of volunteers to assist with the Chinese contingent in the Easter Gala Parade and Torchlight Procession.
Contact the BCA or head to the Golden Dragon Museum for more information.
The festival runs from March 25 to 28. Last year's Bendigo Easter Festival was the biggest in years with 62 entrants in the gala parade.
