After rounds played at Patterson River and Amsel, Herbert had achieved a score of 147 across 36-holes.
The young gun, who will play a key role in Bendigo’s bid for team success, was runner-up for the overall title which was won by R. Bourke from Bacchus March on 140.
Herbert’s lead-up to Country Week included winning last week’s New South Wales boys’ amateur championship.
The Phil DeAraugo-captained Bendigo takes on Ballarat in this morning’s opening round of the teams challenge at Victoria Golf Club.
This afternoon’s second round clash will be with Geelong.
The Bendigo DGA team – Phil DeAraugo, Lucas Herbert, Eric Barclay , Braiden Connor, James Rogers, (Neangar Park); Brent Rothacker, Lincoln Ferrari (Bendigo); Lex Johnstone (Axedale); Garth George (Kyneton); John Howorth (Castlemaine).
Team manager is Rohan Dawkins, with Rod Kelly the liasion officer.
