The Inter-Dominion and Victorian Cup champion will be a short-priced favourite at Lord’s Raceway as he chases his 26th career victory.
“We are stoked to get a horse of the calibre of Lennytheshark for our Cup,’’ Bendigo Harness Racing Club sales and marketing manager Brendan Baker said.
“There’s no better pacer in Australia than Lenny and he’ll be a huge attraction on Saturday night.
“We haven’t had a horse of this status in the Bendigo Cup since Smoken Up won it (2011).”
From 47 career starts, Lennytheshark has won 25 races, placed 18 times and earned connections $1,710,991 in prize money.
Lennytheshark’s trainer David Aiken added the Bendigo Cup to his stable star’s schedule as a key lead-up to the Miracle Mile in Sydney.
“David and Josh Aiken have been huge supporters of the Bendigo Harness Racing Club,’’ Baker said.
“We’re very happy that they’ve decided to run Lenny here.”
The final Cup field will be announced on Tuesday, with former winner Im Corzin Terror, Smudge Bromac, Five Star Anvil and Almost El Eagle amongst the nominations.
This will be the first time the Bendigo Cup has been run in February.
“When the schedule was changed and we were given a February date instead of January we were a bit wary of how it would go,’’ Baker said.
“The way it’s worked out everything is looking great for Saturday night. We have Australia’s best pacer coming here and it looks as though we’re going to get a bumper crowd.”
