Bendigo’s slow internet speeds and idle National Broadband Network towers will be raised in Canberra today as parliament resumes for the first sitting week of 2016.
The towers are yet to be switched on after the key piece of the puzzle, a final tower at Mount Camel, was rejected on appeal by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal last year.
Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters said she will raise turning the NBN towers on today among other priorities for the electorate, including restoring La Trobe University’s funding and greater support for welfare agencies.
“Given the recent media reports on the government's failure to turn on four NBN towers built when Labor was still in Government, I plan to demand from the minister responsible that they fix this mess and turn these towers on," Ms Chesters said.
