The Army Reserve member, who first stood for parliament in 2004 at age 20 and is a candidate for federal Liberal pre-selection, has been a long time fan of the show.
She decided to make the leap from viewer to participant after encouragement from her family
“I’ve always watched it and loved it and so did all my friends and family,” she said.
“A lot of people were saying 'Megan, it's about time you found a fella' and what better way is there than getting yourself out there and on national television?
“I have always been very happy on my own and a not someone who needs someone else around. I’ve never felt need to hurry up and rush into getting married or anything like that.
“But it’s always good to take on new challenges and extend your horizons and I got to have a great experience.
“I cannot wait to watch this and am a bit concerned they might paint me as an army barbie. My army friends are going to poke fun at me.”
Entering the world of television was definitely a new challenge for Megan.
“It's amazing how much your perspective changes when see you what happens as part of program,” she said.
“I have a lot of respect for people who participate in these things. The time and effort involved is huge.
“It was actually quite confronting and challenging to have cameras following you. It’s wasn't easy to forget about them.”
Also confronting was the moment when Megan met the other romantic hopefuls.
“They are all professional women who are very intelligent with wonderful jobs and good qualities,” she said.
“We all met one another at the airport and I walked in and thought ‘my goodness, they are so beautiful and immaculately dressed. What am I doing here?’
“Then I got to speak to them and get to know them and it made it a very fun experience.”
The new season of Farmer Wants a Wife begins on Channel 9 at 8.45pm on Monday night.
