BENDIGO – GOLDEN SQUARE 43 def STRATHFIELDSAYE 39.
Golden Square put the stamp on an undefeated season with victory over Strathfieldsaye in the grand final.
But only after holding off the Storm – playing in their first A-grade grand final - who launched a furious last-quarter surge to give Square a scare.
The game had threatened to just peter out when Square led by as many as 13 goals in the final term at the QEO.
However, the Storm rallied against the odds, and with two minutes left had cut the margin back to four goals.
But Golden Square was able to halt the Storm charge with a Gabe Richards goal that ensured Square would celebrate its first A-grade flag since 2011.
Golden Square defender and captain Allira Hammond won the best on court medal.
The four-goal margin was in stark contrast to the dominance of Golden Square throughout the season.
Of their perfect 20 wins from 20 games, the grand final was only the third match Square didn’t win by double figures, with their average winning margin 26 goals.
HEATHCOTE DISTRICT – COLBINABBIN 50 def NORTH BENDIGO 29.
A year after losing to North Bendigo in the grand final, Colbinabbin extracted revenge on the girls from Atkins Street in a big way.
The Grasshoppers demolished North Bendigo 50-29 in what was their 15th win in a row after earlier starting the season at a shaky 1-3.
Colbinabbin wing attack Jess Geary was adjudged best on court, while Carly Geary shot 46 goals.
LODDON VALLEY – PYRAMID HILL 31 def CALIVIL UNITED 29.
Pyramid Hill denied Calivil United back-to-back flags, winning a two-goal thriller against the Demons.
The Demons fought back from as many as seven goals down during the final term, but it was a bridge too big to overcome as Pyramid Hill hung on to win its first flag since 2007 in what was its 13th-straight victory.
Goalshooter Jess Holdstock was on target for Pyramid Hill, scoring 26 of her side’s 31 goals, while her opponent – Demons’ defender Lauren Miller – won the best on court medal.
Pyramid Hill won the flag, despite not training once as an entire team for the season.
NORTH CENTRAL – WEDDERBURN 48 def DONALD 33.
Power side Wedderburn proved too strong for Donald in the North Central grand final, notching a 15-goal win.
The 48-33 victory on their home court capped a big day for the Redbacks, who had all six of their netball teams in grand finals, with the club winning three and losing three.
