The Shire of Buloke township was named 2012 Tidy Town of the Year at the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Tidy Towns – Sustainable Communities Awards ceremony at the weekend.
Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith said Wycheproof was a great example of how communities could work together to improve their town’s facilities and use their resources sustainably to create an enriching environment.
He said Wycheproof was a connected, innovative, passionate and proud town in Victoria’s north-east.
“Tidy Towns – Sustainable Communities recognise our regional towns for their outstanding community achievements in making their towns more sustainable, tidy and liveable,” Mr Smith said.
This year’s awards attracted more than 50 entries with a total of 163 initiatives.
The ceremony was held at the Peninsula Community Theatre in Mornington, which was named Tidy Town of the Year in 2011.
Initially focused on anti-littering, the Tidy Towns Awards have grown to encompass thousands of diverse community-led initiatives over the past 30 years.
