Ms Radford, who yesterday announced she would run for Lockwood in the upcoming elections, said responsible growth was necessary, “not just open slather for the benefit of a few”.
“When people are surveyed in Bendigo, they say it’s the bush areas that make it valuable to live here,” she said.
“That’s something I want to see that we keep.
“We can look at local laws and strategies and make them as strong as possible to protect what we all value here.”
Ms Radford supports the construction and upgrading of bike paths as a tourism attraction and eco-friendly mode of transport.
“I’m interested in advancing a state-of-the-art aquatic centre at Kangaroo Flat and it would be great if we had a system of bike paths leading there,” she said.
“We need connecting bike paths that are safe to use for both adults and children.
“Bike paths would make it possible for young people to access the aquatic centre without a car.”
Ms Radford, a retired teacher and small business manager, is involved in several environment groups.
“Threats are looming to our beloved rural aspect and amenity and we need a strong voice on council to advocate for the natural environment,” she said.
