Mueck’s one-under par helped him tie for sixth at the $60,000 Royal Queensland Cup Pro-Am last Friday, while Martin was tied in 11th, one stroke further back.
Now Queensland-based golfer Heath Reed, originally from Marong, fared the best of the central Victorians with his two-under par 70 earning him equal third place.
While Reed won’t be teeing off at the PGA Tour opener – the South Pacific Golf Open Championship in New Caledonia next Wednesday – Mueck and Martin are keen to get four rounds of competition golf under their belts.
Martin finished fourth at the Border Open in Barham earlier this month, with rounds of three-under and two-under.
Mueck didn’t fare as well in Barham, finishing alongside two other players in 34th.
However, playing regularly in Queensland has him feeling in a good groove.
“I feel like I’m close to playing well, so that’s the main thing because I’ve got a fair bit coming up,” he said.
“New Caledonia’s quite a big event, all the good Aussies go there and play to keep our card – it’s a tier two event like the Vic Open.
“In October we head over to WA for the WA Open, PGA and they’ve got the Perth International over there as well.
“I’ll either have to win in New Caledonia or pre-qualify for that event because it’s co-sanctioned with the European Tour.”
