RELATED: Tutu walk to raise awareness
JEANETTE Hartley’s journey from Ballarat to Bendigo in a tutu to raise money for suicide prevention is coming to a close.
Ms Hartley is expected to arrive in Bendigo on Friday.
This is the third time she has made the trek in memory of her son who took his own life in 2002.
She said the unseasonably warm weather made this walk difficult.
“The last couple of days it’s been really hot and dusty,” she said.
“I’ve been tempted a few times to take the tutu off because it’s been so hot but I haven’t given in.”
Ms Hartley said the fires raging around central Victoria also made things challenging.
“It was a little bit scary [on Tuesday] because it was a bit close but we’d never put ourselves in harm’s way,” she said.
Up to nine people have joined her on her trek.
Ms Hartley will be at the Bendigo Railway Station on Friday at 4pm and encourages people to come and meet her to discuss her cause.
