Umpires set for action

FOUR umpires will make their Bendigo Football League senior grand final debuts at the Queen Elizabeth Oval on Saturday.

Central umpire Martyn Nadort, goal umpires John Varker and Jeremy Ford (both 15) and boundary Adrian Dingfelder are all first-time BFL senior grand final umpires who will be part of the team taking charge of the clash between Strathfieldsaye and Sandhurst.

Also officiating will be central umpire Dale Caldwell, who will be in charge of his fifth senior grand final, while it’s also the fifth for boundary umpire Aaron Valente.

Paul Hutchinson (central), James Brown (boundary) and Bronte Annand (boundary) round out the senior panel.

Grand final umpires:

SENIORS: Central – Dale Caldwell, Martyn Nadort, Paul Hutchinson. Emergency - Tony Keating. Boundary - James Brown, Bronte Annand, Adrian Dingfelder, Aaron Valente. Goal – John Varker, Jeremy Ford.

RESERVES: Central – Geoff Williamson, Michael Shay, Paul Smythe. Emergency - Gavin Carter. Boundary – Thomas Gunn, Jack Bombardieri, Luke Keuken, Kyle Taylor. Goal – Leslie Varker, Kraig Krieger.

UNDER-18s: Central – Jason Maher, Steve Christensen, Cameron Davie. Emergency - Gavin Carter. Boundary – Francis Gallagher, Kennedy Krieger, Nishanth Narayanan, John Lavery. Goal – Ken Miller, Brian Davey.

Meanwhile, the Bendigo Umpires Association held its chairman’s dinner at the Bendigo Stadium on Wednesday night, where the guest speaker was David Parkin.

BUA 2015 awards:

John Hagley Memorial pathways award – Jeremy Ford.

Most improved – Jason Maher (field); Samantha Bramley (goal); Adrian Dingfelder (boundary).

Life member’s scholarship – Francis Gallagher.

Ian Coates Memorial encouragement award – Geoffrey Annand.

Best first-year junior umpire – Sophie Keating.

Best first-year umpire – Cameron Davie (field); Brian Davey (goal); Steven Crouch (boundary).

Ian Tuddenham best clubman award – Martyn Nadort.

Umpires of the year – Dale Caldwell (field); John Varker (goal); James Brown (boundary).
