Awards will be presented for the premier 2YO, 3YO, sprinter, middle-distance, stayer and picnic horse of the 2014-15 racing season.
One of the section winners will also be crowned the Bendigo Horse of the Year.
Today we look at the nominations for the Victorian Equine Group Stayer of the Year for 2014-15.
Anudjawun – trained by Shaun Dwyer: the now retired galloper didn’t win a race in the 2014-15 season, but he again showed his consistency with three placings in metropolitan class races from seven starts. The highlight of his season was a third placing in the Group Three The Bart Cummings (2500m) at Flemington.
Anudjawun’s final two starts before retirement were second placings at Moonee Valley.
Caves – trained by Danny Curran: the staying mare started her season with a gutsy benchmark 64 win over 2200m at Seymour in early October before graduating to the Bendigo Cup (2400m) where she finished a gallant ninth.
In December, Caves ran third over 2040m at Moonee Valley. Overall, Caves had 10 starts in staying races for one win and two placings.
Judge Jeuny – trained by Rod Symons: the four-year-old had a consistent season in races at 2000m and beyond.
Judge Jeuny broke its maiden status over 2000m at Seymour in August and backed up with a benchmark 58 win over 2000m at Donald.
This campaign Judge Jeuny has two placings over 2200m at Ballarat and a third placing over 2000m at Donald.
Overall this season, Judge Jeuny has had 10 starts in staying grade for two wins and two placings.
The Bendigo Horse of the Year awards will be held on August 15 at Silks Function Centre.
