Since her first match for the Demons in 2003, Atherton has played in six A-grade premierships, been a dual best and fairest winner, and runner-up for the club champion award on three occasions.
One of the Heathcote DNA’s most accurate goalers, Atherton’s agility has troubled many defenders as she has capped off the Demons’ linkwork through every third of the court.
Among the many highs of her netball career were league best and fairest in 2007 and best-on-court in three grand final victories.
Awarded life membership in 2014, Atherton was coach of the A-grade team in 2007 and ‘08 and joint coach in 2013.
Atherton has also had stints as coach of A-reserve and 17-and-under teams, a HDNA club delegate, and club publicity officer.
Her greatest supporters include partner Verity and their sons Aaron and Jack.
Also on the sidleines will be Atherton’s mum Larraine, sister Jody and other family members.
Atherton’s milestone match will be played on the White Hills court at Tint-a-Car Oval.
Other matches in the HDNA on Saturday will be Leitchville-Gunbower at home to LBU, North Bendigo faces Huntly, and Mount Pleasant plays Colbinabbin.
