Plenty of new workshops and writing opportunities fill the program following a successful festival last year that saw more than 700 people attend.
City of Greater Bendigo arts and culture coordinator Maree Tonkin said the committee felt it was important to follow on from last year’s energy.
“Last year such a success and we felt it was important to do it again. We see ourselves as a little sister to the Bendigo Writers Festival and we work quite closely with them,” Ms Tonkin said.
“The point of difference is that Write on the Fringe works to showcase the grassroots, local and emerging talent that we have in Bendigo and the regions.
“The program is quite diverse and provides the opportunity for those (writers) to come together.”
This year Write on the Fringe will see artist Anthony Sawrey collaborating with La Trobe art students on an installation.
The installation will be a multi-coloured mural that reflects Bendigo’s creative writing culture.
Sawrey is an artist known for creating designs on outdoor sites using non-tocix organic line marking fluid.
Elliot Hammond from The Delta Riggs will lead a songwriting workshop and for the first time the festival will host a short story prize.
The Short Story Prize is also a fundraiser to build a care facility for adults with an intellectual disability.
Ms Tonkin said participation was a key part of Write on the Fringe.
“There is lots of interactivity and participation. It really provides a platform for anyone who has an interest in the arts and across all of those genres,” she said.
“It’s very much about that interest and engagement.
“One of those is the Zine Making open studio where we set up a studio place that provides an opportunity to have people doing their own publishing.”
Ms Tonkin said Book Spine Poetry would also be popular.
“It sees people stacking up books and using (the titles) to create some poetry,” she said.
“We have so many different option because the committee is quite diverse.”
Write on the Fringe is on at Bendigo Library from August 6-8.
