Winning style at Bendigo Fashion Festival launch

Leather shorts, fluro blouses and velvet platforms were some of the eye-catching looks on the runway at the launch event of the 2012 Bendigo Fashion Festival yesterday.

Bendigo Jockey Club’s “Taste of Spring” race day helped kick off the fortnight-long festival with two runway shows in its corporate marquee.

Women, and a few men, modelled the spring collections from Bendigo boutiques Mona Lisa, the styling bird, Robe and Merinda, and headwear specialists Bendigo Hat Shop and Pollyanna by Belinda.

There was no shortage of colour on the catwalk with models sporting hot pink knits, fluro orange blazers and floral pants.

Sheer fabrics were also the order of the day matched with foundation garments in eye-popping tones and patterns.

Metallics, cut-outs and asymmetrical hemlines are trends which seem to have carried over from last season and are still going strong.

Fashion on the racegoers themselves was much more demure than those on the runway. But many women took advantage of yesterday’s sunshine, wearing sleeveless shifts and favouring geometric and Aztec patterns.

The Bendigo Fashion Festival continues until September 25. For a full list of events visit
