The talented Bendigo boy has just been selected to play football for Victoria at the School Sport Australia 12-and-under carnival in Geelong next month.
Last year, he won a silver medal playing basketball for the Big V at school nationals and he’s in the running to make the basketball squad for the 2015 Pacific School Games, having again made it through the early trial rounds in that sport.
Daniels, son of Bendigo Braves basketball legend Ricky Daniels, has an impressive sporting record.
As a ruck rover and forward pocket for Golden Square, he won the Bendigo Junior Football League under-12A best and fairest award last year and is now playing in the under-14s.
He was best on ground for Bendigo’s under-12 inter-league squad in their 35-point win over Shepparton last weekend.
And he has competed at state school athletics finals, making the top 10 in the high jump and 100m sprint.
The Camp Hill Primary grade six student said he was excited when he got the email confirming his place in the 23-member School Sport Victoria football team after three stages of trials.
“I jumped up and gave mum a big hug,” he said.
Daniels said he loved both ball sports, but rates basketball as his favourite because “you get a lot more of the ball with only five players on court”.
His aim is to make it into the NBA, but he has a Plan B if that doesn’t pan out.
“I could try for the AFL.”
