THE family of Kerang man William Stevenson comforted each other after the woman responsible for his murder, Danielle Kerr, was sentenced to 21 years' jail on Thursday.
Andrew Stevenson, the victim's brother, spoke on behalf of the family outside the Supreme Court at Bendigo Magistrates' Court after Judge Terry Forrest handed down the sentence.
He thanked the Victoria Police Homicide Squad and Bendigo welfare agency St Luke's for their support in the lead up to the sentence.
"The result we got was pretty good, it still hasn't brought our brother back, we'll have to live with that for the rest of our lives," Mr Stevenson said.
"I don't think we'll ever have closure, just the way he was taken.
"By pleading guilty, she (Kerr) saved the family a hell of a lot of heartache and trauma."
Mr Stevenson said he felt he had lost a brother to ice and he didn't want to see other people hurt by the drug.
"I just hope we get ice off the streets so other people don't have to go through this trauma for the rest of their lives," he said.
"There are so many people hurt by ice."
He said his brother Bill was a hard working man who "loved people and was kind-hearted".
"He tried to be a nice person and got tied up with the wrong person."
