KATRINA Naughton has one piece of advice for prospective, mature-aged students - it's never too late.
The 41-year-old graduated with a diploma of education from La Trobe University yesterday. She was among hundreds also marking the milestone this week.
Ms Naughton, who studied a bachelor degree in information technology prior, said the graduation ceremony was a special moment.
"It means a lot being a mature-aged student, going back to university at age 36. Now I have a degree and a postgraduate degree as well. It's really exciting," Ms Naughton said.
Ms Naughton said her decision to commit to a tertiary education had been difficult but worthwhile.
"I wanted to have a career. Thee were a lot of challenges. There was the financial side of it and getting used to being a uni student. Also the amount of study," she said.
Ms Naughton has found employment at a Melbourne school, where she teaches IT, humanities and art.
She encouraged other people to follow their dreams and not let age be a deterrent.
"It's never too late to go back. It's amazing what you can do with a bit of hard work," she said.
"You don't even have to be highly intelligent. It's amazing what you can actually achieve with work hard."
