Being a cricket tragic, I was fortunate enough to umpire in both the Australian Country Cricket Championships and Bendigo Country Week, thoroughly enjoying the events.
Both competitions were extremely professionally organised and many conversations during the events reflected positive experiences of the visiting teams.
One aspect that was not overlooked by our visitors was the magnificent wickets prepared by the many volunteers at the individual clubs involved.
Having been umpiring in the BDCA for seven years I must agree and suggest that the current batch of wickets our players are experiencing are second to none anywhere in the country.
Our current curators should be congratulated as they are right on top of their game at the moment and it should be recognised that perfect wickets keep players in the game longer.
Perhaps that is one reason why we are sending such a strong squad to represent us in Melbourne Country Week.
Well done to our wonderful curators - keep up the good work.
