More than 130 people sent in photos showing off humorous moments, beautiful scenery and holiday highlights.
Mr Williams' shot captured a kelpie on a farm at sunset near Deniliquin in New South Wales.
Bendigo Advertiser editor Rod Case said the shot captured a moment of serenity in low light - a scene many Australians could relate to.
"Does it get more Australian than the outback, a magnificent sunset, a beautiful kelpie and a wedgetail eagle nest in the background for good measure?" Mr Case said.
Mr Williams said he was visiting a mate's farm and took his camera at dusk to find the eagle's nest.
He entered his photo in the competition to see how it compared with others.
"It's a big surprise actually. I didn't think it would go that well," Mr Williams said.
The new barbecue is a welcome addition to the home he has recently bought in Kerang.
"That’s one less thing I have to get," he said.
Mr Williams said the barbecue would be the centrepiece for a house warming party once the renovations were finished.
Runner-up winners in the competition are Julie Hempenstall, Millie Hipwell, Wayne Launer, Wendy Harvey and Paula Nable who all receive a $30 chicken pack from Lenards at Bendigo Marketplace.
Julie Stubbs, Leanne Lloyd, Shirlene Johnstone-McCloud, Chris Hetherton and Desiree Crandell have each won a $25 meat pack from Erindale Farm butcher.
A White Magic eco cloth goes to Lachlan O'Toole, Ebony Dingfelder and Mark Sinclair.
The Bendigo Advertiser will be in touch with all winners to send vouchers.
