The newly-appointed president has been involved in BSG for more than three years.
He joined on moving to Bendigo from Melbourne.
"I always wanted to be involved in the community and I am interested in sustainability," he said.
"It was just natural to become involved in BSG."
Mr Weir said BSG strived to create a sustainable future with the wider Bendigo community.
"I feel it's important to give back to the community," Mr Weir said.
"Bendigo is a really special place and I feel it has a really growing community.
"I do see change happening in the community especially with the new library, the art centre and the hospital."
Mr Weir said BSG was always on the lookout for new members and it was a foolproof way to make friends.
