Police said the small, twin engine aircraft appeared to have trouble with its landing gear with a female pilot and male passenger, both experienced pilots, onboard.
The plane was forced to circle the airport for nearly two hours to reduce the amount of fuel in its tanks.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services and St John Ambulance personnel were on site to help assist with the landing.
Police closed a section of South West Highway near Greenacres Turf Farm to all traffic which was reopened at 12.30pm after the plane had touched down.
