The Cavs came out firing in the opening quarter, but failed to match it with the Pistons in the remaining three quarters.
Maryborough's Matthew Dellavedova started for the Cavs as point guard Kyrie Irving was out injured for the second-straight match.
He ended the game with three points and six assists in the 103 to 80 loss.
The Cavs will next play the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday before taking on the Milwaukee Bucks on New Years Eve.
