RECENTLY I travelled from Melbourne to Bendigo on the train. At Castlemaine, dozens of very small children in school uniform, and their teachers/supervisors got on and took up a whole carriage, reserved for them.

As I walked through the carriage between Kangaroo Flat and Bendigo, I noticed that several of the children had their feet on the seats, in full view of their supervisors. When I commented, the supervisors then asked them to take their feet off the seats.
Surely these supervisors should have taken the initiative themselves and used the opportunity to talk to these children about respect; not just for the rules, but other passengers.
So many of today’s societal woes could be rectified simply with just a small amount of respect.
