As part of the agreement Bendigo Sustainability Group will fund, install and maintain a solar power system on the roof of the Bendigo library, which will supply about 10 per cent of the library’s electricity needs.
BSG will enter into a 20-year agreement with the City of Greater Bendigo to supply of electricity to the library at a commercial rate.
The agreement will provide a sustainable income stream for the group to reinvest in other sustainability initiatives.
BSG president Keith Reynard said the project was a major achievement that had taken nearly two years to develop.
“It’s also proven a great model that we hope to continue to roll out across the rest of the city and explore the potential to expand it to other sites," he said.
