Allen, a 210cm former St Mary’s college team-mate of Matthew Dellavedova, signs with the Braves after helping the Mt Gambier Pioneers to this year’s SEABL championship.
Allen averaged 13.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in 2014 and his inside presence was something that Braves coach Ben Harvey was keen to add to the Braves’ game for 2015.
“Ben is another exciting piece to the puzzle. When we found out he was on the market we were very keen to have him in a Braves jersey,'' Harvey said.
"He is a versatile big with plenty of experience.
"We look forward to having him in Bendigo.”
Allen had a stellar college career with the St Mary's Gaels.
He started 34 games in the 2009-10 season, helping the Gaels reach the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen.
Allen averaged 10.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game that season.
Allen’s signing comes hot on the heels of the Braves recruiting 2014 SEABL MVP Tony Lewis from the Dandenong Rangers.
Harvey still has a second import place to fill on the Braves roster.
More likely than not that position will be taken by an American point guard.
Harvey said Bendigo-based players Taylor Bell, Chris Hogan and Kevin Probert were expected to re-sign with the Braves in the next few weeks.
He is a versatile big with plenty of experience. We look forward to having him in Bendigo.
