Labor Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan and Labor Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards pledged $5 million to overhaul the precinct.
It includes removing old buildings to fund a new education centre, business hub, cafe and retail outlet.
The development is being led by the Aspire Cultural and Charitable Foundation. It is expected to cost about $15 million and will create 49 construction jobs and 39 operational jobs once complete.
"There are 300 million religious tourists in the world," Ms Allan said.
"I want more to come to Bendigo, sample the surrounds and visit one of the world’s few Gothic Revival cathedrals."
