He finished high school in 2012 and left to study nursing and paramedicine at Australian Catholic University in Ballarat.
But Lachlan is committed to supporting his home town and makes regular trips back to manage 99.1 Goldfields FM where he started at age 12.
Goldfields FM began broadcasting in 2007 and reaches a 30-kilometre radius outside Maryborough.
Lachlan also organises other events central to the town’s social calendar.
He volunteers at the annual Energy Breakthrough cycling challenge, the Maryborough Theatre Company and the brass band committee.
Lachlan said most of his peers from high school had moved away to study in Bendigo, Ballarat or Melbourne.
But he said some of his friends did come back to live in Maryborough because it was pleasant place to live.
“It’s a good town to grow up in,” he said.
Lachlan said he loved supporting organisations in his community and had created his own opportunities.
