One of the country's biggest and longest running not-for-profit organisations is doing it all can to deal with a cash crisis.
It's not just federal government cutbacks that have hit the Army extremely hard.
Bendigo captain Andrew van Gaalen (pictured) declared this year's Red Shield Appeal fell well short of targets in many centres across the country.
In Bendigo the appeal tally was less than half the projected target of $75,000.
The Red Shield Appeal may be over, but it's never too late to donate.
In a community where there's so many charities, Bendigo has shown it can kick in to help them prosper.
Day after day, month after month, year after year, the Salvos have been there for so many.
The Army's diverse range of services includes accomodation, children's services, employment, community care and so much more.
Without more funding what the Salvation Army can and does do will be compromised.
At a time when so much is being injected to defence, it's another army that's facing a battle to keep doing it all it can to help the most vulnerable.
