Tennis Australia’s officiating development coordinator Sof Megas said Bendigo has a huge impact on tennis in the country and that it was important community memebers get involved with officiating.
He said it was great to see, regional Victorians transition from local events to working at the Australian Open.
“It’s such an incredible opportunity to work at the highest level of a sport,” he said.
“We are so fortunate to have talented Victorian officials who represent us on the global stage.”
Megas said regional school teacher Kelly Krusic was an example of someone who made that transition from local events to top tennis tournaments.
Krusic began as a ball girl and has since officiated tournaments such as the French and US Open.
“It’s great for the quality of our tournaments here to have the support of local officials,” Bendigo Tennis Association chief executive Leon Retallick said.
“We have so many great events here at the Bendigo Tennis Complex, and it’s great to see the community get involved at all levels.”
The course will be held at the Bendigo Tennis Complex on November 16, between 9.30am and 11.30am.
The course is free and registration forms will be provided on the day, along with details for practical development leading up to the Bendigo Pro Tour
