On September 18, 1854, a Mr. J. D. Mowbray pitched a tent on the diggings at Kangaroo Flat and opened a Wesleyan Day School.
A week later on the Sunday, he held services and later opened a Sunday school.
Two years later the first church - which was a slab building with a zinc roof – was moved to the present site of the Uniting Church at the corner of Camp and Church Streets.
It has hosted weddings, funerals, baptisms and regular Sunday services ever since.
Church leader Reverend Ian Stewart said a special service would be held at 11am, followed by a shared lunch at 12.30pm.
He said the celebration would be a joyous occasion marked by plenty of singing and fellowship.
“We have about 80 in the congregation, give or take a couple, and they are congregation who love to sing,” Reverend Stewart said.
"We are an older congregation but are showing signs of slow growth.
"It's not explosive growth, but it's really encouraging."
The milestone comes at an important time in the parish's history, with the church building undergoing renovations.
