As chair of Torrumbarry Water Services Committee, the message we have been sending to GMW is to continue its goal of driving efficiencies within the business.
All irrigators support this goal because it’s allowing GMW to stabilise prices for tens of thousands of farmers who rely on irrigation water as part of their livelihoods.
While I understand the decision not to upgrade the park is difficult for the 64 site holders, I believe it’s the only fair decision for the farmers GMW services.
I do not believe GMW should be funding holiday parks and tourism initiatives - especially a park that would not be financially self-sustaining after spending millions of dollars on its upgrade.
As an irrigation farmer and chair of the Torrumbarry WSC, I will continue to encourage GMW to work for farmers’ best interests.
Irrigation water is the lifeblood of our communities and stabilising prices and delivering water more efficiently is - and should be - GMW’s number one priority.
