The Greens will ensure V/line’s plan to increase running times, passenger capacity and service reliability on the Bendigo to Melbourne rail line is costed, funded and implemented, so we don’t end up with a public transport crisis along this line in a few years’ time.

Unfortunately, the Victorian Coalition Government has shelved V/lines plan and has instead decided to splurge $18 Billion dollars on a tollway for cars to travel between Collingwood and Footscray.
V/line has identified the infrastructure upgrades needed to reduce travel times and overcome bottlenecks that are currently inconveniencing passengers. For example; upgrading the East line between Sunbury and Kyneton to take trains up to 160kmh, and fully duplicating the line between Castlemaine and Harcourt.
The Greens are committed to these upgrades because fast and efficient rail services are vital to the continued economic and social development of our regional communities.
